Annual National Capital Region Golf Tournament

Every year the Military Police members in the National Capital Region join together every fall to host a fantastic one day golf tournament in support of the MPFBC.  A special you to Major Kristin Yue-Devoe for providing this write up and pictures of this great fundraiser.

“2020 would have seen the 30th year of this tradition, held every September in the National Capital Region (NCR). This golf tournament is organized and run by a committee of predominantly Military Police, both current and retired, from within the NCR. Each year, the committee gathers in the early months of the new year and starts planning for this event. Previous sponsors are contacted, new sponsors are offered an opportunity to support, and local business are offered the chance to donate items which will become part of the much anticipated Silent Auction.

The day starts with a hot buffet breakfast and registration, and each player receives a goody- bag filled with sponsored items, and includes a carefully selected gift, which differs each year, ranging from shirts, to travel mugs, to BBQ cookery items, etc. Tearing everyone away from brekky and talking to friends they haven’t seen in a while, leads to a shotgun start and a morning full of golfing, contests, 50-50 tickets, posing for photos, comradery, friendly-competition and a wee bit of tomfoolery, perhaps. 18 holes completed, finds everyone re-assembling in the large tent for a BBQ, putting in last bids on a huge array of Silent Auction items, and perhaps having a cold pop. The day culminates with the live auction for a trip to two, flights and accommodations, to Hawaii, announcing winners of Silent Auction bids and of course the winners of prizes for their demonstrations of golfing prowess and skill.

This event has grown to include approximately 288 golfers playing on two courses, which for the last couple years has been on Hyland’s Golf Course, who are absolutely key to the event’s success. The event is only possible through the generous sponsorship of local businesses, most of whom are repeat sponsors who contribute to this fun event and worthwhile cause, knowing their sponsorship goes to one of the largest fundraising events in support of the MPFBC.  The participants in this tournament are made up of sponsors and local business people, members of the greater MP family, CAF members, and civilian police and each year, the amount raised is between $10,000-$30,000!!! In short, this event is the culmination of a lot of hard work, and generous support, raising a lot of money for MPFBC and ensuring a great day of golf in the NCR.”
